little girl with booksWhen one parent has primary custody of a child the other parent, referred to as the non-custodial parent, is obligated to pay child support. Texas law has established guidelines for child support payments when the non-custodial parent’s net monthly income is less than $7,500. The percentage withheld from the non-custodial parent’s net income each month is as follows:

• 20% for one child

• 25% for two children

• 30% for three children

• 35% for four children

• 40% for five children

• Not less than 40% for six children
